ONE FULL WEEK, 17 AUG 2026 TO 23 AUG 2026

There were 153 new businesses in Las Vegas in the week of August 17, 2026, out of 175 across the valley. That is what the licence files say, read on August 24, 2026. We publish this count every week for one reason: a company that tells you it watches the public record should be willing to show you the record. If you sell to electricians, the ones already trading here are at our electricians directory.

The state's side of the week

Licences are the second event in a new business's paperwork, not the first. Before a city licenses anybody, the state records the filing. In the same week, 2 new business entities were filed with Clark County addresses, and 3 across Nevada, so about 1 of them were somewhere other than this valley. Every one of the Clark County ones was still carried as active when we read the file on August 24, 2026. The gap between a filing and a licence is usually weeks and sometimes months, and that gap is the selling window most people in Las Vegas skip.

What the builders were doing

Building permits are the third strand. In the same week the valley's permit records show 992 permits issued in total, of which 143 were commercial rather than residential. Commercial permits are the scarcest of the three signals here and usually the most valuable: a tenant improvement means somebody has signed a lease and is spending money on a space, months before there is a sign on the door.

North Las Vegas ran well below its own average

North Las Vegas recorded 17 new licences this week against an average of 445 a week over the previous 8, about 96 percent down. We compare a city against itself rather than against its neighbours, because otherwise the answer every week is that Las Vegas is larger, which is not news. A single week is not a trend, and licence files land in batches: a city that processes a backlog on a Thursday produces a spike that means paperwork, not commerce. It is worth watching whether the next two weeks hold.

What "the city on the licence" means

The city in that ledger is the address the business put on its licence, not the government that issued it. It matters here more than it would elsewhere: a great deal of the valley has a Las Vegas mailing address without being in the City of Las Vegas. Spring Valley, Enterprise, Paradise and Summerlin South are unincorporated Clark County, licensed by the county, and their post reads Las Vegas. So the Las Vegas row above is the city plus those townships, which is what somebody asking who opened near them actually means, and it is not the same thing as the City of Las Vegas issuing that many licences. Henderson, North Las Vegas and Boulder City license their own, so those rows are cleaner.

One more reconciliation, because the two numbers you could count here are not the same number. The valley's registers issued 310 new licences that week in total. Of those, 175 went to businesses with an address somewhere in this valley, and the other 135 carried a mailing address elsewhere, or none at all: an out-of-state contractor licensed to work here, a company registered through an agent's office in another city. The ledger above counts the valley ones, because that is who a local vendor can actually go and see.

We publish the number we counted rather than the number that would read better, which is also why the read date sits beside every figure on this page. Next week's count is a different count, and this one will still say what it said.

SWCRM counts this every week for the whole valley, and turns it into a short list of the businesses in your trades and your ZIP codes with a dated reason to hear from you. The first ten signals are free, every week, no credit card.
